Description

1944 WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1944 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The date carries strong Class VI extra thickness, particularly on the lower 9; LIBERTY also shows extra thickness, and IGWT shows it to a lesser degree. A Class II separation line lies on the lower 9. Obverse markers: a small gouge protruding from the N of IN at its lower right, and a gouge near the middle of the nose. Reverse marker: a scratch extending SE from the top right of CENT's N. Delma K. Romines submitted the variety. Coppercoins lists it as 1944P-1DO-008. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
