Description

This 1944 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent doubled die obverse, WDDO-020, is cataloged by Wexler (doubleddie.com) as 1944-D 1¢ WDDO-020. It shows strong Class VI extra thickness on the date and LIBERTY, and to a lesser degree on IN GOD WE TRUST. Obverse die markers: two short, diagonal die scratches below the earlobe and a strong die gouge in the field to the left of the lower shoulder. Reverse: a small die gouge (dot) inside the O of ONE, a die crack down the lower right of the T in CENT, a short die scratch running NE from the lower right side of that T, and a die scratch running ESE from the bottom of the E in CENT.
