The medium classification indicates doubling that is clearly detectable under moderate magnification without being dramatically obvious to the unaided eye. VarietyVista's die stage documentation traces this die through three stages: Stage A at EDS (Early Die State, unconfirmed), Stage B where both obverse and reverse show MDS (Mid Die State) characteristics, and Stage C where a die crack develops over the V.D.B. designer initials on the obverse and the reverse reaches LDS (Late Die State).
