1943 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-016

Description

1943-S WDDO-016 is a doubled die obverse on the 1943-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Two extra eyelids lie below the normal one. Obverse markers: west-to-east scratches on both sides of the D in GOD, in the gap between that letter and the rim; NNW/SSE scratches under the chin and in front of it; heavy crisscrossing scratches in front of the brow; and concentric scratches in and around the ear. Reverse markers: two gouges (dots) on the first U of PLURIBUS, one on its west side and one high inside it; a gouge north of the space between the US of PLURIBUS; a small chip on the N of ONE, on its upper east leg; a light crack heading northwest off the upper west corner of the E in ONE; and a scratch running northwest from the S to the E of STATES. Daniel Griffin submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
