1943 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

1943-S WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1943-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Extra eyelids appear both above and below the normal eyelid. Obverse markers: a gouge centered between the S and T of TRUST; north-to-south scratches under the chin that continue down to the tie and vest; behind the head, heavy vertical scratches that crisscross; and concentric scratches in and around the ear. Reverse markers: a crack from the rim running southeast through the left wheat; chips where the ear and stem of the left wheat stalk meet; and heavy SSW/NNE scratches in and around the CE of CENT. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler's comments note that the variety was first also listed as WDDR-006, but that reverse listing was judged too minor and has been replaced.
