Description

Carrying VarietyVista die markers UVC-3029 and DMR-034, DDO-020 on the 1943 Lincoln Wheat Cent features light spread concentrated on BER of LIBERTY and IN GOD — a selective pattern affecting only a portion of the LIBERTY inscription and the first two words of the motto, indicating the hub displacement zone intersected these areas while leaving the surrounding design elements below the detection threshold. The BER-only spread on LIBERTY is diagnostically significant because it confines the visible doubling to the central-to-right portion of the word, suggesting the displacement vector's effective zone had a defined boundary that excluded the LI at the left end and the TY at the right end, or that the spread direction aligned most favorably with the vertical strokes of B, E, and R. Three die stages map this die's service history: Stage A (EDS) is unconfirmed, Stage B documents Early-to-Mid Die State with a diagnostic light die crack extending across Lincoln's shoulder to his lapel, paired with a reverse also in EMDS, and Stage C (LDS) is unconfirmed. The shoulder-to-lapel die crack in Stage B provides a clear structural landmark on the obverse that develops as die metal fatigues under repeated striking impact. The 1943 Lincoln Cent holds special significance as the only year the denomination was struck in zinc-coated steel rather than the standard copper alloy — a wartime expedient to conserve copper for military use. At 2.7 grams in the steel composition, these coins are magnetic and visually distinct from all other Lincoln Cents.
