1943 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1943-D WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1943-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY and IN GOD show a clockwise spread pivoting at about K-3, and every digit of the date shows a spread toward the center. Obverse markers: a small die chip inside the lower E of LIBERTY; a scratch heading southwest from the Y through the lower T of LIBERTY; a scratch running SE from the eye across the nose; a crack linking the top of the head and the rim, passing through the W of WE; and a crack that starts left of the tie, runs south, and forks, one branch heading southeast to the rim near K-5 and the other southwest to the rim near K-7. Reverse markers: a crack from the rim above the E of EPU runs southeast through that E and into the field, ending left of the O of ONE, and another runs northeast from the upper E of ONE through the N of UNUM to the rim. Frank Baumann submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 2-O-II-C+V-CW, and Coppercoins as 1943D-1DO-010.
