1943 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-022

Description

1943-D WDDO-022 is a doubled die obverse on the 1943-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY, the date, and IGWT show Class VI extra thickness. Obverse marker: a short, strong gouge curving north from the bottom left of the 1 in the date. Reverse markers: cracks run to the rim from the lower right wheat grains and from the upper right wheat grains. A crack starts at the upper right of the O in ONE and runs east through the upper N, and another runs north from the top left of that O to the first U of PLURIBUS. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 7-O-V-CW+VI and also as 9-O-VI, and Coppercoins as 1943D-1DO-006. Wexler's comments note that the coin first used as the plate for 1943-D 1¢ WDDO-027 proved to come from this die, so it now belongs to this listing. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
