1943 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-009

Description

1943-D WDDO-009 is a doubled die obverse on the 1943-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY and IN GOD carry a Class V CW spread that pivots at about 4:00. The eyelid is tripled, its extra images lying north and northeast. Obverse markers: a strong crack leads from the bottom of the bust out to the rim near 5:30, and a short vertical gouge sits between the tops of the T and R in TRUST. The reverse is also a minor doubled die, 1943-D 1¢ WDDR-009 in the Wexler Files, with a very close Class II spread toward the center on EPU, the dots, and the upper left wheat ear. One scratch curves NNE from the C of CENT, starting at its lower right tip, and another heads ENE from the upper right of the N in CENT. G. J. Lawson submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 8-O-II+V. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
