1942 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1942-S WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1942-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes a strong Class IV spread, directed SW, on IGWT (IN GOD WE TRUST), the date, and Lincoln's vest, and the letters of TRUST show tripling, most clearly on the lower U. Obverse markers: a long scratch reaches north from the Y in LIBERTY, and a crack crosses the base of the bust. The reverse is a minor doubled die too: 1942-S 1¢ WDDR-003 in the Wexler Doubled Die Files. Its marker is a scratch running south from the O of OF, at its bottom left, down to the left wheat stem's top. Michael Taw submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 2-O-IV, Breen as #2161, and Coppercoins as 1942S-1DO-002. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
