Description
An extra bar shows below the normal crossbar of the L in LIBERTY. Die Markers: Obverse: Stage A: The obverse is also an RPM listed in the Wexler RPM files as 1942-S 1¢ WRPM-035. A strong die gouge (dot) shows to the left of the lower 1 in the date. A die gouge (dot) shows southwest of the lower tip of the 9 in the date. A die gouge (dot) shows southeast of the mint mark. Light die scratches run south from the G in GOD. A series of mostly horizontal die scratches run through and left of the upper letters in WE. A horizontal die scratch runs below the US in TRUST. A horizontal die scratch shows at the rim NE of the S in TRUST. About vertical die scratches show on BERT in LIBERTY. A diagonal die scratch runs through the lower edge of Lincoln’s hair curl. A concentric die scratch shows at the rim below the back of Lincoln’s bust. Stage B: The die gouges around the date and mint mark are still visible. The die scratch at the hair curl is still strongly visible. The remaining die scratches are weaker. A die gouge (dot) shows above the I in IN. Reverse: Stage A: A series of light, vertical die scratches show to the right of the upper left wheat tip. A vertical die scratch runs between the letters I and B in PLURIBUS. Light, vertical die scratches show on the upper T in CENT. Light, vertical die scratches run through the U in UNITED. A die crack shows on the central right wheat grains, right of the last S in STATES. Stage B: The stage A markers are still visible. Two die gouges show in the field below the second U in UNUM. A die crack runs from the central left wheat grains into the rim.
