Description

1942-S WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1942-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The 942 of the date is doubled, and Wexler notes possible very slight doubling under the bottom of LIBERTY's Y. Obverse: light vertical scratches beneath the date and onto the front of the jacket; crisscrossing scratches right of the lower face; a great many vertical scratches through most letters of IN GOD WE TRUST; a scratch along the right edge of the ear opening; and light diagonal scratches right of LIBERTY's Y. Reverse: a series of vertical scratches through the left dot; a vertical scratch running south from the upper right edge of UNUM's N; a series of strong vertical scratches beside the right arm of ONE's N; a series of vertical scratches through CENT's T; a vertical scratch through the opening of AMERICA's C; a crack running from the rim into the left wheat stalk, beside UNITED's U on its left; and a crack on the central right wheat stalk, SE of STATES' last S. Brian Ribar submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
