1942 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-014 / DDO-006

Description

Bearing VarietyVista's marker codes UVC-1523 and DMR-008, the 1942 Lincoln wheat cent DDO-006, which Wexler numbers WDDO-014, shows strong spread on the eyelid together with a wide but faint spread on the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Both catalogs give the Cherrypickers number FS-103 (18.9), which Wexler writes FS-01-1942-103 (018.9). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties calls it a very strong Class V counterclockwise spread pivoting near the rim at 6:00, seen on the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST and Lincoln's eye, with very slight doubling inside the 9 of the date. The obverse marker is a diagonal gouge on the neck northwest of the bowtie; the reverse marker is an NNW-SSE scratch between the tops of the N and second U of UNUM. Darrel Neidigh submitted it. CONECA lists it as 6-O-IV and Coppercoins as 1942P-1DO-008. VarietyVista, without naming a reporter, records both sides early in stage A and middle in stage B; a late stage C is unconfirmed.
