1941 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1941-S WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1941-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Strong Class VI extra thickness covers IGWT (IN GOD WE TRUST), the date, and the letters of LIBERTY. The obverse carries the small mint mark variety, punched well south and slightly tilted (rotated). Other obverse markers: a light scratch heading ESE from GOD's O at its top right, and a short scratch running NW off the 1, from its left side. Reverse: a heavy SW-to-NE scratch crossing the left wheat stalk's upper wheat lines and jutting out at their top right; heavy gouges protruding from ONE's N, off the left side of its right vertical bar; a short but strong scratch heading SW from the rim near 4:00; and many other scratches across the reverse. Delma K. Romines submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 2-O-VI; the Coppercoins number is 1941S-1DO-002. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
