Description

Cataloged as DDO-019 by VarietyVista, this 1941 Washington quarter exhibits a strong spread north on the last digit 1 of the date, a visually compelling doubled die obverse variety struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 90% silver and 10% copper, weighing 6.25 grams with a 24.3 mm diameter. Tracked under Universal Variety Code UVC-0506 and Die Marker Reference DMR-039, this die pair has an extensive documented history with multiple die states and a notable obverse-reverse combination. Stage A is at early die state (unconfirmed); Stage B at mid die state (unconfirmed); Stage C at late die state shows die cracks on the forehead and hair, a die crack across the bust, and critically, the reverse die is separately listed as DDR-019. Additional Stage C reverse markers include a die crack down the eagle's right wing, a die crack running from US of PLURIBUS to the wing under AMER of AMERICA, and a die crack extending east from the back of the eagle's head.
