Among the earliest of the minor doubled die obverse varieties cataloged for 1941, WDDO-006 documents a hub doubling event from the Philadelphia Mint's record-setting production year. Assigned Wexler Variety ID 1941 1¢ WDDO-006, this Lincoln Wheat Cent emerged from a mintage of 887,039,100 — the largest output of any single denomination and mint to that date. Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait was entering its third decade of continuous production, and the sheer volume of dies required to strike nearly 900 million cents inevitably produced multiple instances of misaligned hub impressions.
