Description

Showing extra thickness on LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date, this 1941 Lincoln Wheat Cent VDDO-029 has three documented die stages. Stage A presents both obverse and reverse in early die state (unconfirmed); Stage B at mid-die state (unconfirmed); and Stage C with both obverse and reverse in late die state, confirming the die served through significant wear. The UVC and DMR codes remain pending assignment. The extra thickness spans three major obverse inscription groups, indicating broad hub displacement that affected the full die face during hubbing. Lincoln Wheat Cents from 1941 were produced in the final year before the United States entered World War II, and Philadelphia Mint output was substantial. Doubled die varieties from this era reflect the multiple-impression hubbing technology then in use, where slight misalignment between successive hub impressions could leave measurable traces of doubling on the resulting working die. Collectors should examine all three inscription areas to confirm the variety.
