1941 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

1941 WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1941 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The date and LIBERTY show very strong Class VI extra thickness, and IGWT (IN GOD WE TRUST) moderate thickness. Obverse: a short scratch heading SW off GOD's O, from the right side of its bottom; a short but strong WSW-to-ENE scratch between GOD and WE; a gouge north of the 4; and a gouge low on the right part of the bust. Reverse: parallel scratches running from the SW between EPU's E and P (E PLURIBUS UNUM); a strong SW-to-NE gouge through the bottom of UNITED's D; and a short gouge heading NNE from the middle of the right side of AMERICA's first A. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. The Coppercoins number is 1941P-1DO-009. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
