Description

DDO-005, which Wexler also numbers WDDO-005, is a doubled die obverse on the 1941 Lincoln wheat cent, a business strike, with spread on the date's 19, on the TY of LIBERTY and on Lincoln's ear. Both catalogs give it the Cherrypickers number FS-103: Wexler writes FS-01-1941-103 (018.3) and VarietyVista FS-103 (18.3). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes the doubling as a wide Class IV spread toward the northeast on the 19, the TY and Lincoln's earlobe. Its one obverse marker is a crack crossing the middle of the base of the bust; it notes no reverse markers. Kevin Flynn submitted the coin. Wexler also lists CONECA 5-O-IV and Coppercoins 1941P-1DO-006. VarietyVista, crediting S. R. Thurman with the report, calls the spread strong on the ear, on the TY of LIBERTY and on the 19 of the date. Under its marker codes UVC-1477 and DMR-007 it lists stage A (early die state) and stage B (middle), neither yet confirmed, and stage C, where a light crack shows on the lower lapel in a late die state and the reverse is late as well.
