1941 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002 / DDO-002

Description

DDO-002, which Wexler numbers WDDO-002, is a doubled die obverse on the 1941 Lincoln wheat cent with strong spread on the date, LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. Both catalogs give the Cherrypickers number FS-102 (18.1), which Wexler writes FS-01-1941-102 (018.1). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties calls the doubling a strong Class I counterclockwise spread on the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY and the date. Its obverse markers are a small gouge protruding inside the 9's upper loop and another small gouge just above the 4; no reverse markers were noted. John A. Wexler submitted it. CONECA lists it as 2-O-I, Breen as #2155, and Coppercoins as 1941P-1DO-002. VarietyVista credits James Wiles with the report and describes strong spread on the same three areas. Under its marker codes UVC-1474 and DMR-004 it lists an early stage A that is unconfirmed, then stage B with both sides in a middle die state and stage C with both sides late.
