1941 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-0016

Description

The 1941 Lincoln Wheat Cent DDO-0016 displays medium spread as an extra horizontal bar above the left side of the last T of TRUST — the same Full T over Broken T hub transition diagnostic seen in the nearby DDO-015, but from a different die marriage. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-1488 with die marriage DMR-018, the earliest die state shows both obverse and reverse in early die state (EDS), with later MDS and LDS stages unconfirmed. The Full T over Broken T hub identification indicates this obverse die was created during the transition between hub states, where an earlier hub with a fully formed T crossbar was succeeded by one where the T's crossbar had broken. The medium strength of the spread — stronger than the light spread on DDO-015 — makes the extra bar above the T more readily detectable under magnification. Lincoln Wheat Cent collectors recognize the Full T / Broken T hub transition varieties as an important documentation point in the evolution of Victor David Brenner's design during the early 1940s.
