Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team, WDDO-003 of the 1940-S Lincoln wheat cent displays extra thickness on LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, with separation lines from a spread toward the center on IN GOD WE TRUST. This obverse die also carries a repunched mintmark listed as WRPM-001, an S/S Northeast variety, making this a dual-variety die marriage combining DDO and RPM on a single coin. Additional obverse markers include a die gouge right of the bowtie. The reverse shows a die crack through the lower right wheat grains in the right wheat stalk. The combination of a doubled die obverse with a repunched mintmark creates a coin appealing to collectors of both variety types.
