Description

Combining Class II Distorted and Class V Pivoted hub doubling, WDDO-005 shows compound doubling on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, and the date of this 1940 Jefferson Nickel. Die markers: obverse die scratch above 4 and 0 of date; reverse strong die scratch below UNITED, scratches through LLO of MONTICELLO. The dual-class displacement indicates two separate misalignment events during die preparation. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID: 1940 WDDO-005, attributed by Brian A. Ribar. Schlag's design was in its third year when this die was prepared.
