Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-623 with die marriage DMR-019, the 1939 Jefferson Nickel DDR-010 shows light spread on E PLURIBUS UNUM, AMERICA, the last O of MONTICELLO, and FIVE CENTS on the reverse. This variety was struck from the Reverse of 1940 die (RDV-002), distinguished by its straight Monticello steps — the early 1939 reverse (RDV-001) featured curved steps before Felix Schlag's design was refined. Die states progress from unconfirmed EDS through MDS for both obverse and reverse to unconfirmed LDS. The Reverse of 1940 designation is itself a collectible variety within the first year of the Jefferson Nickel series, and DDR-010 adds doubled die interest to this already notable transitional design element.
