1939 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-027

Description

1939 WDDO-027 is a doubled die obverse on the 1939 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extra eyelid lies just south of the normal one. Obverse: light vertical scratches through and beneath the 19 of the date; horizontal scratches left of the 1; a series of gently curving, nearly vertical scratches below IN; light horizontal scratches joining the bottom of GOD's D with the bottom of WE's W; and short, nearly vertical scratches over LIBERTY's Y. Reverse: a series of roughly horizontal scratches through ONE; a scratch running south from CENT's T at its upper right edge; diagonal scratches through the central letters of USA (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA); a curving horizontal scratch beneath the last S of STATES; and a series of diagonal scratches through the ES of STATES and the CA of AMERICA.
