1939 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-026

Description

1939 WDDO-026 is a doubled die obverse on the 1939 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling takes the form of an extra eyelid to the northeast. Obverse: light concentric scratches through and beneath the 19 of the date; diagonal scratches between WE's E and the first T of TRUST; concentric scratches through the TY of LIBERTY; and an arching crack over the VDB initials. Reverse: a gouge at the rim over the first U of UNUM, at its left edge; a series of vertical scratches right of the upper right wheat lines; roughly vertical scratches through the bottom of CENT's E; light, mostly vertical scratches beneath its T; a light diagonal scratch across the lower right wheat grains, to the right of AMERICA's last A; and a diagonal scratch in the field right of those lower right grains. Daniel Griffin submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
