Description

Medium doubling across LIBERTY and a light spread on the 937 of the date identify DDO-016 for the 1937-P Lincoln Wheat Cent, documented across three die stages under catalogue numbers UVC-3399 and DMR-023. Stage A is the early die state (unconfirmed). Stage B is the mid die state, with specific mid-stage markers including a die scratch north from the hair under the G of GOD, a die scratch north from the chin, and a die scratch through IBU of PLURIBUS. Stage C is the late die state (unconfirmed). The 1937-P Lincoln Wheat Cent was struck in bronze — 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc — at the Philadelphia Mint under Victor David Brenner's design. The Stage B markers — particularly the die scratches through IBU of PLURIBUS and north from the chin — are among the most specific mid-stage identifiers in this variety's documentation and provide a clear reference point for collectors sequencing examples within the die progression.
