1936 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-016

Description

1936 WDDO-016 is a doubled die obverse on the 1936 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Just above the normal eyelid sits an extra eyelid. On the obverse, a short north-south scratch lies just right of the lips. The reverse is a doubled die too, filed by Wexler as 1936 1¢ WDDR-012. It carries strong extra thickness on both wheat ears and stems, EPU (E PLURIBUS UNUM), and the dots, plus close tripling atop the left wheat ear. Its markers are a north-south scratch left of the middle of CENT's T; a SSE scratch from the upper left of the second T in STATES down to that T's center; and a light crack across two outer kernels lying SE of the second S in STATES. Whaden Curtis submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 5-O-IV.
