1936 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-014

Description

The 1936 Lincoln Wheat Cent WDDO-014, attributed as 1936 1¢ WDDO-014 in the Wexler system, displays hub doubling as a clearly extra eyelid line appearing at a sharp angle south of the normal eyelid on Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait — characteristic of a rotational hub shift during die making. The obverse carries multiple reference points: a die crack loops from the rim at approximately 7 o'clock over the designer's initials and back toward the rim, and an east-west die crack crosses through the lower center of the bust. On the reverse, a short die scratch runs south-southeast from the underside of the horizontal crossbar of the T in CENT, paired with a complementary scratch heading north-northwest from the top of that same crossbar. A die crack runs from the tip of the left wheat ear to the E in EPU; parallel die scratches run west-northwest to east-southeast between the upper C and E in CENT. These combined markers give attributers a robust toolkit for confirming die identity. WDDO-014 rewards patient examination of eyelid detail and crossbar scratch confirmation on the reverse.
