1936 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

1936 WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1936 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A counterclockwise (CCW) spread from a pivot near 9:00 appears on the eyelid, WE TRUST, and the date. Obverse Stage A: a horizontal scratch from the lower first T of TRUST to the R; a short scratch heading SE from the tip of the eyelid; a scratch from the top of the nose's bridge SSE to the nose; and a clash right of the throat. On Stage B none of these are visible any longer; instead there is a gouge centered between the E of WE and the T of TRUST, a gouge inside the O of GOD on its left side, and a gouge right of the N in IN, at its upper middle. Reverse Stage A: a scratch joining the bottoms of both legs of PLURIBUS' R, and two short scratches heading NE from the second A of AMERICA at its upper right. On Stage B the Stage A markers are no longer visible; scratches run roughly horizontally through AME of AMERICA, a crack sits on the left middle of the left wheat, and a scratch runs NW from the T of CENT halfway to the E of ONE. Sam Lukes submitted Stage A and Keith Christenson Stage B. CONECA lists it as 4-O-V; the Coppercoins number is 1936P-1DO-010.
