Description

Revealing close spread toward the center on the date alongside doubling on the underside of Lincoln's eyelid, this 1936 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent WDDO-012 presents an unusual combination where hub displacement manifested on the portrait's fine facial detail. Doubling below the letters B, E, and Y of LIBERTY completes the obverse diagnostic picture, attributed by the Wexler Team. The eyelid doubling is particularly distinctive, as the delicate curved line translates even modest displacement into a detectable secondary impression that collectors can locate with moderate magnification. Die markers include a die gouge inside the upper Y of LIBERTY, die scratches running west-northwest from the W of WE, and a light die crack through the lower right wheat grains on the reverse. The die crack through the wheat grain area documents progressive structural failure, providing a die state indicator alongside the hub doubling features.
