1935 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003

Description

1935 WDDR-003 is a doubled die reverse on the 1935 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Very strong Class VI extra thickness appears on both wheat ears and stems, on EPU (E PLURIBUS UNUM), and on both dots. Obverse: three NW-to-SE scratches above the eyelid; a gouge over the Y of LIBERTY's left fork; and a crack that starts at the rim near 7:00 and follows the bust's base, above the designer's initials. Reverse: two north-south scratches left of the U in UNITED, and a light crack running south from the O of ONE, off its lower left side. James C. Moreland submitted the variety, and Al Raddi upgraded it. Wexler lists no cross-references and notes that all photos of this variety were taken by John Bordner. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
