Error
Description
Thomas Petrosie discovered VAM-3C of the 1927-D Peace dollar in 2016. Classified II 3 B2a and designated Doubled Left Obverse, 3 Die Gouges Below and Left of E, this variety carries a rarity rating of I-3 R-7, indicating extreme scarcity with an estimated population of just 5 to 15 pieces. The obverse features a third short, slightly diagonal die gouge added below the first die gouge between two rays, distinguishing it from earlier die states in the VAM-3 family. The reverse B2a die shows a die crack to the right of the lower olive leaves along with diagonal polishing lines at the left of the leaves. The 1927-D Peace dollar is already a key date in the series with a mintage of only 1,268,900 pieces, and VAM-3C's R-7 rating makes it one of the rarest attributed varieties for this issue. As with all Peace dollars, the reverse motto reads IN GOD WE TRVST, employing the classical Latin V.
