1925 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002
ErrorDescription
An extra eyelid visible below the main eyelid provides the primary diagnostic for WDDO-002 on the 1925 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent. This subtle facial doubling requires careful examination under magnification, as the secondary eyelid sits close to the primary one. Obverse die markers include a short die gouge protruding from the bottom of the first T in TRUST and a short die scratch running northeast from the bottom of the bowtie, along with a die scratch curving east from Lincoln's lips. On the reverse, a die scratch runs northeast from the top of the T in CENT to the tip of the right wheat ear, and a short die scratch runs southwest from the left side of the center horizontal bar of the E in CENT. The reverse die scratch connecting T in CENT to the wheat ear tip spans a significant distance across the die surface, providing an easily located confirmation marker. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 1925 1¢ WDDO-002, this variety rewards patient examination of Lincoln's eye area.
