1924 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1924 WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1924 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Moderate extra thickness appears on E PLURIBUS UNUM, both dots, both wheat stems and the lower parts of the letters of AMERICA. The obverse has many scratches: several roughly vertical to NNW/SSE ones well above the T and Y of LIBERTY, out in the field; a series parallel to the head in the field under the G and O of GOD; one from Lincoln's upper hair running NNE into the field below the E of WE; light diagonal ones inside the opening of the ear; and a series of light, nearly vertical ones on the cheek behind the mouth. A light crack also follows the bust truncation at the rear shoulder fold. Reverse: a pair of closely spaced NNE/SSW scratches just right of the edge of the upper left wheat lines; a small gouge (dot) inside the top of the M in AMERICA; and a diagonal scratch running NW from the top of the last A in AMERICA. Daniel Griffin submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-R-VI; the Coppercoins number is 1924P-1DR-001.
