1922 (S) Peace Dollar - VAM-2AB
Error
Description
Discovered by David Close in February 2011, the 1922-S Peace Dollar VAM-2AB is attributed for a die gouge below AR in the word DOLLAR on the reverse — a raised mark corresponding to a depression in the reverse die face. The B2a die pair designation confirms this as a reverse-focused variety, with the diagnostic gouge in the lower reverse inscription. Die gouges below DOLLAR occupy a region collectors can quickly inspect when screening for VAM attribution, making this an efficient cherrypicking target. Rated R-6 (13 to 30 estimated known), this is among the scarcer Peace Dollar varieties, with a population low enough that confirmed specimens command premiums beyond silver value. Anthony de Francisci's reverse depicts the eagle with olive branch, PEACE inscribed on the rock, and DOLLAR in the lower field where this variety's diagnostic appears. Struck in 90% silver at 26.73 grams. Examine below AR in DOLLAR on the reverse for the raised die gouge mark.
