Description
VAM-2BQ documents a collar clash on the reverse of the 1922-D Peace Dollar — light reeding marks visible at the outside edge of the rim from ONE down to the tail feather ends. Collar clashes occur when the collar die, the ring that forms the coin's edge reeding, contacts the working die face, transferring its reeded pattern onto the die and subsequently onto every coin struck from it. Classified as II1 - B2a with an I-2 rarity scale and R-6 designation (an estimated 13–30 known examples), this scarce variety was discovered in 2013. The 1922-D Peace Dollar features Anthony de Francisci's radiant-crowned Liberty on the obverse and a perched eagle before a rising sun on the reverse, with the distinctive Latin spelling TRVST in the motto. R-6 varieties represent genuinely rare die marriages where locating a specimen requires patience and deep market awareness, as they appear infrequently in dealer inventories and auction lots.
