Description

Twelfth reverse cud for the 1919-S Lincoln Wheat Cent, part of at least fifteen documented rim failures for this remarkably productive date. Whether caused by particular die steel, press calibration, or production tempo during post-armistice expansion, San Francisco's 1919 production generated an outsized number of rim fractures. Each cud formed when the reverse die rim separated under cumulative striking pressure, leaving a cavity filling with bronze planchet metal. San Francisco struck approximately 139 million cents. Cross-referenced as CU-1C-1919S-12R, cataloged by Cuds on Coins.
