Description

Twelfth reverse cud for the 1919-S Lincoln Wheat Cent, part of at least fifteen documented rim failures for this remarkably productive date. Whether caused by particular die steel, press calibration, or production tempo during post-armistice expansion, San Francisco's 1919 production generated an outsized number of rim fractures. Each of these rim cuds represents the loss of part of a reverse die's rim gutter, which shows on the coin as a raised interruption in the design rim that tracks the rim's course.
