1919 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent Rim Cud (Reverse 3:00–9:00, Split at 4:00)
Error
Description
This 1919 (S) Lincoln Wheat cent displays an exceptionally broad rim cud on the reverse running from 3:00 to 9:00, divided into two segments by a small unbroken section at 4:00. A rim cud spanning half the circumference represents a terminal die failure, well past the point at which a die would normally be pulled from service. The narrow bridge of intact rim at 4:00 separates two arcs of lost rim gutter, so the coin shows two rim cuds that have not yet joined. Breaks of this magnitude on the 1919-S rank among the largest documented rim failures for the date.
