Description

Die rim failures at San Francisco's 1919 cent production have been documented in extraordinary quantity, and this eleventh reverse cud adds to one of the series' most prolific cud populations. Post-WWI conditions at the facility produced an outsized number of fractures. A rim cud represents the loss of part of the die's rim gutter: on the coin it appears as a raised interruption in the design rim that tracks the rim's course. The 1919-S date yielded at least fifteen reverse cuds, making it a focal point for cud collectors. San Francisco struck approximately 139 million cents.
