Displaying extra thickness on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and FIVE CENTS, this 1918 Buffalo Nickel doubled die reverse is the second documented for the date under the VarietyVista classification system. The extra thickness on the reverse legend and denomination indicates hub doubling that spread design elements enough to produce visible thickening without dramatic separation. Die marker codes UVC-0?? and DMR-00? remain unassigned, reflecting an early documentation stage where the variety has been identified but not fully integrated into the complete die marker catalog. The variety progresses through multiple die states: Stage A in early die state, Stage B exhibiting a die clash visible through PLURIBUS in a late-to-middle die state, and Stage C in late die state remaining unconfirmed.
