Description
The second octagonal souvenir of the 1915 exposition, HK-425, was struck on a much thinner planchet than the first and calls itself official: within a beaded circle its obverse reads "Official Souvenir Days of '49 Panama Pacific International Exposition San Francisco 1915 Copyrighted." The reverse again reproduces a California fifty-dollar gold slug, but with changes from Type I: "In God We Trust" appears in a banner above the eagle, "Copyrighted" below it, and "Fifty" in place of "Fifty Dolls.," inside the legend "Facsimile of Famous California Fifty Dollar Gold Slug Used by the Pioneers * 1850 *." Irvine & Jachens of Daly City made the octagonal dollars in oreide, a commercial bronze. HK-425 is gilt bronze, 40 mm by 40 mm.
