Description
A sailing ship rides between two ribbons on the obverse of HK-410a, "The Land Divided" above it and "The World United" below, inside the legend of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition at San Francisco, 1915. The reverse belongs to North Carolina: its state seal within a circle, "For North Carolina Exposition Fund" around it between stars, and on a ribbon the state motto "Esse Quam Videri," to be rather than to seem, with the tiny signature "Robbins Attleboro" below the seal. The same ship obverse served South Carolina (HK-412), Tennessee (HK-413) and Kentucky (HK-410b) for their own fund medals. Some of these state pieces were plated officially and others privately. HK-410a is silver-plated bronze, 38 mm; HK-410 is the bronze.
