Description

Silver plating covers the bronze of HK-409a, Montana's fund-raising medal for the 1915 exposition at San Francisco. According to Hibler and Kappen, some states had their bronze medals silver-plated officially while other plated pieces were done privately. The design is shared with bronze HK-409 and gilt HK-409b: a winged Victory with a laurel wreath on a ship's prow before the exposition and the sun, and on the reverse the tools of the farm and the mine before a river valley with mountains, ringed by "For Montana Exposition Fund" and the ribbon motto "Oro Y Plata." The exposition was lit electrically on a new scale and is credited with the first use of indirect lighting. Its size is 38 mm.
