Description

The Louisiana Building, shown within a circle with its name below, takes the obverse of HK-406a, surrounded by "Panama-Pacific International Exposition San Francisco 1915." On the reverse a version of the state seal is laid over the lower part of the building and its grounds, with "For Louisiana Exposition Fund" and the state motto "Union Justice Confidence" around. The medal was a way for Louisiana to raise money for its showing at the 1915 fair, which counted more than eighteen million admissions, about thirteen million of them paid, between February and December. Louisiana had itself put in a bid to hold the exposition at New Orleans before San Francisco won it. HK-406a is silver-plated bronze, 38 mm; the plain bronze piece is HK-406.
