Description
The reverse of HK-408a credits the women of Mississippi: "Contribution of the Women of Mississippi" and "Mississippi Dollar Exhibit Fund" circle a building, and the medal was sold to raise money for the state's display at the 1915 exposition in San Francisco. This is the silver-plated bronze version. The obverse calls its two subjects "Mississippi's Winners of the West," Jefferson Davis with the year 1846 and John A. Quitman with 1848, Davis shown nearly in profile and Quitman full face. Robbins Co. of Attleboro struck it. The exposition's eleven exhibition palaces and some 240 other buildings gave it the name City of Domes, and the designers spent color on them freely. 38 mm across; the unplated bronze is HK-408.
