Description
1901-P VAM-5 Double Ear, 2 Olive Reverse Discovered by Jim Baxter, February 1979. This coin is a Hot 50 Morgan VAM. '''5 III2 2 - C4/C3a (Double Ear, 2 Olive Reverse) (189)''' '''Obverse III2 2-''' Inner ear lobe, bottom outside of ear lobe, hair above ear, eyelid and lower edge of cotton leaves are slightly doubled. '''Reverse C4/C3a-''' Faint shallow extra olive to right of olive connected to olive branch. Back of lower arrow head, upper feathers of eagle's left wing and right sides of eagle's nostril are slightly doubled. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: '''Comments: # An exceptional obverse doubled die. Usually dismissed as just another doubled ear, actually the eyelid, hair above the ear, and back of ear all show clear doubling. While several doubled ears are known on 1901-P Morgans, the doubled eyelid makes the VAM-5 stand alone. Because of the price of common 1901-P BU morgans, AU is probably the preferred grade for this VAM, and in AU it does return a nice premium.
