Error
Description
Discovered by Jerry Hanson in April 2000, the 1901-O VAM-33 Morgan Dollar is classified 33 III21 with a C4/C3l reverse. The defining feature is the 2 Olive reverse — an extra olive to the right of the olive connected to the olive branch. Additional doubling appears at the base of the left and lower olive leaf cluster, along the lower edge of the middle arrow shaft and lower arrowhead, and across the top edge of feathers in the upper part of both wings. The O mint mark is centered, set high with a tilt to the right. Doubling also shows on the left side of O and A in DOLLAR, while the bottom inside of ED, STATE, O, AME, and Trust show slight doubling toward the rim. The number of doubled elements across the reverse — wreath details, lettering, and eagle feathers — reflects a notable hub shift during die production. The 1901-O Morgan Dollar had a mintage of 13,320,000, one of the higher New Orleans outputs.
