Description

Discovered by Martin Field in July 1982, this New Orleans Morgan Dollar carries one of the longer-established VAM attributions. Designated 28 III2 11 C4/C3g (Slanted Date, Doubled Ear, 2 Olive Reverse) with rarity 181, the obverse shows the ear slightly doubled at very top below hairline and below inner ear fill, with the date slanted so the first 1 sits closest to the rim. The reverse features an extra olive to the right connected to the branch, with doubling at the base of left olive leaf cluster, back of lower arrowhead, feathers at top of eagle's left wing, and right side of eagle's nostril. Mintmark is set high, upright, and centered. The 1901-O is a key date among New Orleans Morgans with strong collector demand. Field's 1982 discovery predates the internet-era VAM boom, placing this attribution among the foundational entries in the New Orleans Morgan catalog.
