Discovered by George Mallis in July 1964, VAM-4 for the 1900-O Morgan Dollar carries special historical weight in the VAM collecting community. George Mallis is one of the two creators of the VAM cataloging system, with the "M" in VAM standing for his name alongside Leroy Van Allen's "VA." His personal discoveries represent firsthand contributions from a founder of the field. Cataloged on plate position 4 III2 5 - C3c, this variety is described as Near Date with O Tilted Left, indicating the date was set further left than normal and the New Orleans mint mark tilts slightly left on the reverse.
