1900 (O) Morgan Dollar - VAM-23B

Description

1900-O VAM-23B — Near Slanted Near Date, High O, Polishing Lines E and Wreath. Discovered by Herb Zepke, February 2002. Obverse III2 15: near date position slanting left. Reverse C3l: high O mintmark; polishing lines on the E of E PLURIBUS and on the wreath. The obverse is classified LVA III2 — identified with three or more other die varieties. A "Near Slanted" date position describes a date that sits close to the bust but is also tilted at a slight angle rather than horizontal — two separate positional characteristics combined in the single designation. The "High O" mintmark documents the New Orleans O mintmark positioned higher than normal on the reverse die. Polishing lines on the E and wreath indicate die-surface preparation marks that were not entirely obliterated before striking, serving as secondary diagnostics alongside the mintmark position. Herb Zepke's February 2002 discovery adds a named attributor and date to the VAM-23B record. Morgan Dollars were struck in 90% silver, 10% copper.
